*At very low temperatures or very high altitude the formation of bubbles in the compass capsule is possible (but not obligatory). When a compass is subsequently placed under normal conditions, the bubbles tend to disappear and, in the future, might not reappear even in cold weather or at high altitude. (The plastic material after such "training" becomes more elastic.)
